BAY CITY – Two Minnesota men died in a plane crash last Tuesday near Bay City, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s office. John Zeman, 28, and Ethan Smith, 20, both from Rochester, Minn., died in a plane crash that occurred Sept. 6 one half-mile west of the Red Wing Regional Airport in a field on airport property, just ou Highway 35. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at 1:39 p.m.
According to the news release, a 2012 Glasair Super II SFT left an airport in Rochester, Minn. at 12:20 p.m. for a training flight to the Red Wing Region- al Airport. The Rochester Lourdes Boys Hockey team Facebook pages states that Zeman was Smith’s flight instructor. Smith was a 2020 Lourdes graduate.
