Start the New Year by stepping out with Staying Put

Staying Put, Inc. (S312 McKay Ave. PO Box 193, Spring Valley) offers an array of non-medical volunteer services to help seniors and adults with disabilities maintain their independence in Spring Valley and Elmwood. They also offer people the chance to volunteer in the rural tradition of “neighbors helping neighbors.” These services are offered at no charge, but donations are graciously accepted.

Staying Put has new office hours: Closed Mondays except for special events; 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Call 715-778-5800 for a complete listing of services.

In December, the office will be closed Dec. 24 and 25.

Transportation: Staying Put provides local and non-local transportation (with mileage reimbursement) for groceries, banking, pharmacy, hair and medical appointments. Call 715-778-5800. Drivers needed! Mileage reimbursements available.

Meals on Wheels/Spring Valley and Elmwood: For info on home-delivered meals, call ADRC of Pierce County at 715-273-6780/toll free 877-273-0804. Can you deliver meals? Call 715-778-5800. Elmwood drivers needed now!

Indoor Walking Group, 6 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays at Spring Valley Middle/High School (S1450 County Road CC) and at 6 p.m. second and fourth Tuesdays at Elmwood Middle/High School (213 S. Scott St.) An opportunity to stay active, engage in conversation and maintain social connection through the winter months. All fitness levels are welcome; walking groups can be adjusted to fit individual needs.

Coffee Klatch: 10-11 a.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Staying Put office unless otherwise noted (occasional cancellation). Enjoy a visit over fresh coffee or tea, donated treats. All clients and volunteers are welcome to drop in! All events begin at 10 a.m.

  • 13 – with special guest Matt Huepfel, who will answer your pharmacy questions.
  • 14 – Celebrate the January birthdays with coffee and treats.
  • 21 – Coffee at Kern’s (109 N. Main St., Elmwood)

Coffee & Conversation: A social get-together for older adults to share memories and stories, scheduled 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 1at Elmwood History Center (110 S. Main St.)

Music at SV Health Care Campus: 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 at SV Health Care (S830 Westland Drive, SV). At 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, enjoy music at Valley Villas (S820 Westland Drive, SV) The public is welcome.

SV Memory Café: Every second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. This is a social get-together for older adults held 10-11:30 a.m. Jan. 13 and Jan. 27 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, S520 Church Ave., SV. Come share your memories with a friend or companion. Have fun and share stories, enjoy coffee, tea and treats, all are welcome. For info or a ride, call Staying Put at 715-778-5800.

Strong Bodies fitness sessions: Co-sponsored by Pierce County ADRC. Classes are held 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the SV Village Hall. Call to register at 715-778-5800.

Monthly Birthday Party, 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at Kern’s Hometown Café (109 N. Main St., Elmwood). Volunteers and clients with January birthdays, stop in for treats, games and prizes!

Games + Soup, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Elmwood Public Library (111 N. Main St.) or 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9 at Staying Put Office. Play board/card games and enjoy homemade soup!

Foot care clinic: Licensed nurse Rochelle Boos will trim toenails and reduce calluses and corns from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Staying Put Office. Call for an appointment and cost information: 715-778-5800.

Elmwood Open Craft, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 at Elmwood Public Library (111 N. Main St.) Bring your own project or follow along with our monthly craft (announced on Facebook).

Winter Dance, 1-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at Elmwood Auditorium. Volunteers, clients and community members welcome for food, fun, music and dancing with music by the Bobtown Boys.

Bingo, noon on Sunday, Jan. 25 at Staying Put Office.

SV Open Craft, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 at the Staying Put Office. Bring your own project or follow along with our monthly craft (announced on Facebook).

Animal Companionship: ATD certified therapy dog Abby will come visit. Call 715-778-5800 to request a visit.

Care Baskets: Assembled and donated by a Staying Put volunteer, delivered to members experiencing loss, illness, loneliness. Please call the office if you have a tip: 715-778-5800.
