Which local candidates will be on your April ballot?

Posted

Local races are taking shape in Pierce County for school board, city council, village board and county board seats, which residents will vote for on April 7, 2026.

Candidates had until 5 p.m. Jan. 6 to turn in papers at the municipality in which they are seeking a seat.

Incumbents who are not seeking reelection had to file non-candidacy papers by 5 p.m. Dec. 26.

If a primary is necessary in any municipality, it will be held Feb. 17, 2026. A primary is held to narrow down candidates for local, nonpartisan. Candidates for local offices who move on from the Feb. 17 primary will appear on the April 7, 2026 ballot. This date is also when Wisconsinites will elect the next Supreme Court justice. The easiest way to check if you vote in the February primary is by entering your address into myvote.wi.gov's "What's On My Ballot" feature. Sample ballots should be ready by Jan. 27.

Here are some other voting tips:

  • If you have a valid Wisconsin driver's license or ID card, you can register online on myvote.wi.gov up to 20 days before an election, or Jan. 28 for the February primary.
  • The deadline is the same if you want to register by mail. You can print and fill out the registration form and mail it to your city, town or village clerk.
  • You can also register in-person at your local clerk's office until Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. or the end of business hours.
  • You can also register at your polling place on Election Day. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. across Wisconsin.

No matter how you register, you'll need to provide a proof of residence document that shows your current address. That could be a copy of your lease, a utility bill or bank statement.

If you wish to run for office as a write-in candidate, you must register with the appropriate municipality by noon on April 3, 2026.
