Vernon Schoeder, age 86, of Elmwood, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn.

Vernon was born on Dec. 17, 1939, in Red Wing, Minn, to Frank and Rosalia (Schladweiler) Schoeder. He grew up near Spring Valley, Wis., where he attended school and graduated with the Class of 1957.

Vernon met the love of his life, Marian Hines, at a dance in Ellsworth, Wis. They were married on Oct. 8, 1960, at Clayfield Catholic Church. Marian preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 2019. Together they made their home on the family farm in El Paso Township, Pierce County, where they raised their four children.

For 35 years, Vernon and Marian farmed together on the family farm. He also worked for several years at Helmer Printing in Beldenville, Wis., before retiring. Vernon remained on the family farm until the time of his passing.

Vernon enjoyed hunting, bowling, and riding his side-by-side. He and Marian shared a love of square dancing and bowling throughout their years together. Above all else, Vernon cherished spending time with his family, who were the center of his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; his parents, Frank and Rosalia Schoeder; his stepfather, Willis Harshman; his sister, Marion Sitter; and his brother, Eugene Schoeder.

Vernon is survived by his four children: Cathy (Steve) Silk, Scott (Patty) Schoeder, Cherie (Steve) Palacio, and Steve (Michelle) Schoeder; nine grandchildren: Caleb Silk; Kristopher and Braden Schoeder; Matthew and Branden (Sarah) Palacio; Stefanie (Chris) Deal; Emily (Trent) Romens; Tyler (Taylor) Pelton; and Natalie Schoeder; six great-grandchildren: Patricia, Connor, Carl, Otis, Adeline, and Margo; two brothers, Bernard (Selba) Schoeder and Jerome (Rita) Schoeder; one sister, Marcella Dunn; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at Keehr Funeral Home in Spring Valley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spring Valley, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Spring Valley.
