Tom Boden retires Jan. 3, from 16 years of serving Pierce County seniors as a delivery driver for Meals on Wheels, transporting clients to Red Wing’s sheltered workshop for ProAct, and flying cover over numerous tasks within today’s Aging & Disability Resource Center.
Boden, 78, of Beldenville, joined county service after retirement from four decades of work as a courier for several regional tire wholesalers and a stint in insurance sales.
Boden said he loved serving seniors. “It’s the best job I ever had. I get the pleasure of serving people, and having them show appreciation.” He enjoyed the close friendships and praised the teams’ commitment to a “communal mission” of serving the elderly.
Boden’s coworkers planned to salute Boden and celebrate him over cake and refreshments on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Boden said he has no special plans, beyond paying attention to his wife, Darla, increasing his visits to Snap Fitness in Ellsworth, and tinkering and touring in his vintage 1966 Plymouth Fury convertible.
