Veterans Day observances

School district across Pierce County will honor veterans on Thursday, Nov. 11. While not all in-person events are back, the public has many from which to choose. The Journal would also like to extend its sincere appreciation and gratitude for all veterans. Thank you!

Ellsworth Middle School will hold its annual Veterans Day program from 9-10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 in the EMS gymnasium (312 Panther Drive). The program, which has been held for more than 20 years, honors local veterans and is open to the public. Col. Patricia Baker will deliver the keynote address. She has had an exemplary military career, including two tours in Iraq with the 3rd and 34th Combat Aviation Brigades. She currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the MN Air & Army Guard. The eighth-grade band and choir will also perform, along with speakers from grades 6-8.

Elmwood School District’s Veterans Day Program will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 in the Wolf Den Gym._The public is welcome.

Plum City School District invites community members and veterans to its annual Veterans Day program at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 in the high school gymnasium. Lunch will be provided to all veterans after the program.

Prescott School District is not hosting a large Veterans Day gathering this year. High School Principal Josh Fiege said students will take part in various activities to learn about Veterans Days in their classrooms and to recognize veterans.

River Falls’ Meyer Middle School (230 N. Ninth St.) will host its annual Veterans Day program virtually this year, with a link posted online. This usually in-person event will hopefully return next year.

Each elementary school will have a “Meeting Under the Flagpole” on Thursday morning. The American Legion goes from school to school and performs a ceremony, which includes a 21gun salute. The schedule is as follows: 8:30 a.m. River Falls High School – Inside the gymnasium, Color Guard, bugler and speaker 9:15 a.m. Rocky Branch Elementary – Outside rifle squad, bugler and speaker 9:45 a.m. Westside Elementary – Outside rifle squad, bugler and speaker 10:20 a.m. Greenwood Elementary – Outside rifle squad, bugler and speaker Greenwood Elementary will also host a veterans’ breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12. The Greenwood Character Council Committee members will eat with veterans. Veterans of Greenwood families are invited.

These events are not open to the public due to social distancing measures.

Spring Valley School District will host a Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 in the Spring Valley Middle/High School gym (S1450 County Road CC, Spring Valley. All veterans are invited as honored guests to this special program. All community members are encouraged to attend as well. Parking is available in either the middle/high or elementary school lots.
