ELLSWORTH – Nurturing hearts, inspiring minds, and embracing faith—this is the mission that has guided St. Francis School, a proud pillar of Catholic education in Ellsworth, for more than 78 years. With nearly 1,500 alumni who have grown into strong community leaders and faithful servants, St. Francis has cultivated a legacy of academic excellence, spiritual formation and personal growth.
This week, St. Francis School invites the entire community to come together in celebration and support at the 20th Annual St. Francis School Gala, themed “Fiesta Loca!” More than just a fiesta, this vibrant event plays a vital role in bridging the gap between tuition and the true cost of educating each student.
The excitement kicks off online on Wednesday, April 15, with daily video messages and chances to participate in the silent auction, classroom project bidding, and fund-a-need campaign. Each day brings something special, from a joyful student ukulele performance to heartfelt reflections from Principal Mark Matzek and Father Sam McCarty.
The fiesta culminates with an in-person celebration on Saturday, April 18 at the St. Francis Parish Hall. Guests will bust out their sombreros, serapes, and festive prints for an evening filled with exciting raffles and games, a delicious meal catered by Ready Randy’s, engaging dessert and live auctions, and an inspiring pledge drive in support of our students. The night will end with live music by the Reed Grimm Band, welcoming Reed Grimm back home for a performance full of energía and corazón.
This year’s goal is to raise $153,200 to support critical needs, including replacing the roof on the original school building ($100,000) and investing in new science ($11,000), religion ($1,200), and handwriting ($1,000) curriculum for grades K-5. Funds raised will also provide vital support for tuition assistance ($20,000) and help sustain competitive staff salaries ($20,000). Every gift—grande or pequeño—makes a difference in helping our students learn, grow, and thrive.
While tuition is $3,500 for one student, the true cost to educate each student is $9,000. The difference has always been made possible through generous support from St. Francis Parish and the broader community. Since the Gala’s inception, more than $950,00 has been raised—an incredible testament to the power of a united community.
Whether you’re a longtime supporter, proud alumni, or community member curious to learn more, you are invited to be part of this special celebration. Your presence, prayers, and generosity help continue the vision of “Making Jesus Famous” in the hearts of our students. So grab your maracas, bring your fiesta alegría, and get ready for a night filled with fun, flavor, and celebration as we come together to support St. Francis School. ¡Nos vemos en la fiesta!
