Volunteers seed prairie at school forest
Members of the School Forest committee recently had the opportunity to help seed a portion of the land that is being restored to native prairie. SDRF has signed a Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program Landowner Agreement with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to restore/develop the 7-acre “old farmer’s field” into a native prairie. Becky Brathal, USFWS Biologist, developed the restoration plan, secured the native prairie seed for the project, and oversaw/facilitated the seeding earlier this month. As part of the ongoing project, the land was previously surveyed by the DNR for threatened or endangered vegetative species (none were found). Photos courtesy of River Falls School District
