Walk On Therapeutic spring riding classes open

RIVER FALLS - Registration is now open for the spring riding sessions at Walk On Therapeutic Horsemanship in River Falls. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings from 6-8 p.m., and Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon. Session I begins April 16 and Session II begins May 28.

Walk On serves children and adults with physical, developmental, social and emotional disabilities by providing horseback riding experiences assisted by trained volunteers.

“Riders receive numerous benefits through participation,” Executive Director Ken Giske said. “They develop core muscle strength, balance and coordination. We work on the educational process of cognitive development, including speech and socialization. We also work on issues for those with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). With each class, riders see their abilities grow. and with it, their confidence in themselves. Walk On bridges and forms bonds between riders, volunteers, and equines in a rewarding experience for everyone.”

Love horses and meeting new people from the area? Walk On is also seeking volunteers to assist riders during riding sessions. Volunteers generally commit to the Tuesday or Thursday evening classes or the Saturday morning classes. Interested volunteers can register at walkontherapeutic@gmail.com or by calling Ken at 715-425-2025.

Volunteer orientation for new volunteers will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9; Thursday, April 11; and Saturday, April 13.

Recognized as a Premier Therapeutic Riding Program by PATH International (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship), Walk On follows the association’s guidelines and standards.
