With election paperwork still out for many, Stewart said she expects to see more come in before the January 5 filing deadline.
Meanwhile up in River Falls to the northwest, District 3 alderman Hal Watson and District 2 alderman Christopher Gagne have both filed non-candidacy papers for the April election, according to City Clerk Amy White. Both Gagne’s and Watson’s districts are located in St. Croix County across Division Street, between North Main Street and Dry Run Road to the west. No one had filed official candidacy papers as of Friday morning December 18. The deadline to file candidacy for those interested in being on the official ballot is January 5, 2021 at 5 p.m., down at City Hall.
Down the way in Prescott, meanwhile, City Administrator Jayne Brand said that incumbent Bailey Ruona had declared candidacy for the spring election while Joshua Gergen had filed papers of non-candidacy, a signal that he will not be seeking reelection this Spring. Ruona serves as an alderperson “at large,” while Gergen represents the Fifth and Sixth Wards. As such, if you happen to live west of Campbell Street North and north of St. Croix Street with the ward boundary line taking a short jog up Pearl Street to Hilton, you qualify as being eligible to replace Gergen on the council to represent Wards 5 and 6 in Prescott. For villages, its caucus time—or else nomination. Checking with your village clerk for details if interested in serving. Ellsworth is a nomination system, while Bay City and Maiden Rock have caucuses. Plum City did not respond with comment in time for press.
Bay City’s caucus, meanwhile, is on January 13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Village Hall, with village president Jim Turvaville and two trustees (Jon Ebensperger and Terry Johnson) filing noncandidacy papers, meaning three open seats on the local Bay City government. The Maiden Rock village caucus—not to be confused with the township—that is, the Maiden Rock VILLAGE caucus is set for January 18 at 6:00 p.m., with the presidency and one trustee position up for nomination. These seats are currently held by Tracy Young and Roger Erickson.
Similarly for those who live in area townships, you may— or may not—have a paper filing system, with Trenton among those using a paper filing system for candidates while most other townships in Pierce County use a caucus system, with nominations from public attendees.
“We do not have a caucus,” town clerk Steve Thoms said when asked about spring election details and candidate selection. “We have a nomination papers system,” in which those wishing to run collect signatures and turn these in to file for official candidacy. The entire town board of Trenton is up for election, with filing candidates signing on for a two-year term if elected.
For those towns with a caucus nomination system instead, nominees have five days from their nomination to file papers, with the rundown for responding townships as follows, in alphabetical order. Spring Lake, Gilman, and Rock Elm near Spring Valley were not queried, while parties interested in running will need someone to nominate them at said events as well.
If you live in Clifton Township, the caucus to nominate candidates for the April ballot will take place Tuesday, January 5th at 7:00 p.m. at the Clifton Town Hall. With the whole town board (Chair, Clerk, Treasurer, and two supervisors) up for reelection, it should be an interesting affair. The Clifton Town Hall is located at the corner of County Road QQ with County Road FF, reached by taking a left onto FF if traveling south from Hudson or due west on FF if traveling from River Falls—but wait, there’s more!
For readers who live in Diamond Bluff township, the caucus meeting is scheduled to be held January 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the town hall, with more information available at www.
If you live in the Town of El Paso, your caucus is on Saturday, January 16th at 1 p.m. at the town hall, located at N5325 450th Street, Ellsworth, per town clerk Sherri Heise.
If you live in the town of Ellsworth, meanwhile—not to be confused with the village—the Town of Ellsworth caucus is set to be held January 4th at 7:00 p.m., at the town hall, located at W6058 490th Avenue. As with many but not all other Pierce county townships, the entire Ellsworth town board is slated for re-selection to a two-year term.
Readers in Hartland township can expect to have their caucus January 12 at 7:00 p.m., with the township hall located along the north side of County EE north of Bay City, in the community of Esdaile.
For those who live in Isabelle township around the Bay City area, meanwhile, the town caucus is scheduled for January 18th at 6:00 p.m. at the Red Wing Airport Terminal building, per clerk Julie Erickson.
For those who live in Maiden Rock township—not to be confused with the village—the local town caucus for nominating spring candidates for the board is scheduled for Wednesday, January 13 at 6:30 p.m., at the town hall. For those living in the Town of Martell northeast of the village of Ellsworth, the town caucus will be January 12, 2021 following the monthly meeting. According to the clerk, someone will be talking about broadband at the monthly meeting so that the expected caucus start time will be from 7:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Oak Grove township caucus date will be chosen on Monday, December 21, after the Journal’s print deadline for the Christmas holiday. Oak Grove town clerk Andria Hayday made known that the caucus date should be online shortly after the meeting, for those interested in attending.
North and east in the town of River Falls, meanwhile, surrounding but distinct from the city—the caucus to nominate ballot names for the next board will be held January 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the town hall, per Chair Diana Smith. The Salem town caucus north of Warrentown will be held Thursday, January 14 at 6:00p.m. prior to the monthly board meeting. Up for election this spring are the chairman’s post and two supervisors. The Salem town hall is located just off Highway 10 on County A, or a right turn if traveling toward Plum City from Ellsworth. Also listed in the official posted notice is a signature requirement, due January 5 at 5:00 p.m., at the office of the town clerk.
Finally for Journal readers in the Town of Union near Plum City, the caucus to nominate spring ballot candidates is scheduled to be held January 11th at 7:00 p.m. at the town hall in Plum City per town clerk Barbara Schneider.
