New eyeglass drop box installed at Nilssen’s
ELLSWORTH – Established in Ellsworth on Oct. 20, 1930, the Ellsworth Lions Club works to support many worthy causes in the Ellsworth community and beyond. We are a local club of the Lions Clubs International whose motto is “We Serve.” Lions Clubs International has five global initiatives we support through our volunteer service. These initiatives are diabetes, environment, hunger, vision, and childhood cancer.
Our community projects include bingo at the senior centers, highway cleanup, planting flowers at entrances to the village, sponsoring a youth Fishing Derby at Nugget Lake, vision screening at the school, high school graduate scholarships, Red Cross blood drives, transporting corneas, collecting and providing supplies for the children’s cancer center, and others. We recycle eyeglasses, hearing aids, printer cartridges and cell phones. In fact, a collection box is located inside Nilssen’s Supermarket at 157 E. Main St., Ellsworth.
Financially, we support the Pierce County Food Pantry, Basics for Local Kids, Christmas Gift Box Program, and others. We ouer area youth the opportunity to enter the International Peace Poster contest. We support the state and international Lions programs of Leader Dogs for the visually impaired persons, Camp Needlepoint for youth with diabetes, Wisconsin Lions Camp for youth with a variety of health challenges, as well as LCIF, the grant foundation for worldwide needs. Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion. We encourage everyone to visit www.lionsclubs. org to learn more.
We provide service stau for Salvation Army bell ringing, Pierce County fair parking, Cheese Curd Fest, Pierce-Pepin Cooperative member events, Showdown in Curdtown, and other organizations who ask for our service. These organizations provide financial support to our club. Our own fundraising events include selling advertising packages for the Community Calendar (promoted in the local newspaper and social media, community and school events are listed and distributed, free of charge, to over 1,000 households), two food stands at Nilssen’s Supermarket, garage sales, and rawe ticket sales. We are proud to give back all funds raised to local and international causes.
Our Club meets for about an hour on the 4th Monday each month at various locations in Ellsworth. “Like” us on Facebook at Ellsworth Lions Club, our email is [email protected] gmail.com and our mailing address is Ellsworth Lions, PO Box 215, Ellsworth, WI 54011.
