Pierce County voters will once again head to the polls April 1, 2025 to cast their ballots for important local village board, city council, town board and school board elections. One school district, Spring Valley, will ask voters to consider two referendum questions related to facilities and maintenance expenses.
Local races have a crucial role in shaping the lives of citizens. They determine the leadership and policies that govern schools and communities. Those elected make decisions on education, public safety, infrastructure, services, and what to do with taxpayers’ money. Serving in a public office role is often a thankless task that involves hours of discussions, research, presentations and meetings.
The Pierce County Journal sent questionnaires to candidates in local races. The hope is their answers will allow voters to get to know them a bit, what they stand for and how they would approach these roles if elected. Incumbents are marked with an asterisk*.

Robert Fleming is challenging incumbent Jerry Kosin* for the Oak Grove Town Chair position. They were given the opportunity to fill out questionnaires.
The other incumbents are running unopposed: Rich Ruemmele* (Supervisor 1), Daniel Johnson* (Supervisor II), Andria Hayday* (Clerk) and Kim Huppert* (Treasurer).
Position: Township Chair
Previous elected positions: Current Vice President of the Pierce County Snowmobile Council
Occupation: Delivery driver
Community/civic activities: Beldenville Snowmobile Club Pierce County Snowmobile Council
Why are you running for the town board? I feel like there has been a lack of action and leadership so I want to step up to help make good decisions for the township.
What skills/values do you possess that you feel would be valuable in public office? I grew up on a dairy farm and helped run operations for five years, so I relate to most issues and values of our township. I have 20+ years of experience in road construction and leadership experience being an active member of a snowmobile club and the county council.
What are the biggest challenges faced by the township? How can you help? The biggest challenge I see is limited funding for projects and upkeep on current infrastructure. The constant issue I have heard at meetings are our current road conditions. I understand the processes of industry and the importance of craftsmanship.
What are the strengths of the township? We offer a high quality of life through growth and a quiet area to raise a family.
Why should people vote for you? I feel that I can help the township maintain its values without compromising our quality of life. I am willing to look into different avenues to improve our infrastructure like our roads.
What is your favorite part of living in this township? How long have you lived here? I built a home here in 1997 and have stayed because it's quiet and low crime. I was able to raise a family here just like a lot of people in our township. This location is great to live because of the access to jobs, multiple cities, and good schools.
