Staff Report

The tournament season for high school spring sports is beginning throughout Wisconsin, and Wednesday, June 2, the River Falls High School boys’ golf team participated in the Superior Regional Tournament in Superior, Wis.

The top four teams in the tournament are those who get to advance into the next round which is sectionals. The Wildcats boys’ golf team finished third overall on Wednesday with an overall score of 305 behind first place Eau Claire Memorial and Hudson. The final team to qualify for sectionals along with them was New Richmond.

Going into Wednesday’s regional, Wildcats Boys’ Golf Head Coach Tim LaVold shared what each of his players were focusing on before game time.

“We are hoping to be one of the four so hoping this isn't our last event,” LaVold said. “Max Xiong says ‘play your own game.’ Dylan Rach is hoping to control his emotions. Chris Chapin is tasked with keeping the mood light for everyone. Our team goals this year have always been to qualify for the State meet. This is the first step in achieving that goal.”

Individual scores for the Wildcats were Max Xiong with 74, Matthew Marsollek and Dylan Rach with 76, Trey Timm with 79, and Ethan Campbell with 82.

“It was a very good day for us,” said LaVold. “In other Wildcat golf news senior Drew Manns won the inaugural Wildcat JV Match play championship with a 1up win over Freshman Jake DeBroux.”

The Wildcats played Tuesday, June 8 in Wausau, for the WIAA Sectionals at Greenwood Hills Country Club.
