The River Falls High School softball season ended on Monday, June 14 after losing to Eau Claire North in the first round of the WIAA Softball Tournament Regionals.
The Wildcats had played their final two regular season games against Eau Claire North losing both 3-13 and 4-10 last week. Monday’s loss was a 3-8, final. The Wildcats got more hits than Eau Claire North eight to four, but the Wildcats gave up 12 walks in the game which led to the eight runs scored by Eau Claire North.
“We were a very young and inexperienced team this season so the whole season really was a learning experience for these players,” said Wildcats Softball Head Coach Chantele Torrez. “They learned to play at a higher level of varsity softball, and learned that mistakes and errors are going to happen, however the most important play is the next play.”
The team had only one senior on their roster this year, Lily Griffin. Having the rest of the team returning with more experience in the spring of 2022 brings hope for Torrez and the entire roster for next season to be better.
“This group of players does not like to lose, and they are hungry to get better each day. Our goal again for next season is to compete for a spot in the top of the Big Rivers and win more games in conference,” said Torrez.
Although the season was a learning experience and came with many losses, there were still many enjoyable moments for the team this year. As Torrez shared, “The players have so much fun day in and day out. They made some really great plays this season on the defensive end. Our outfielders robbed a few home runs against Somerset, I think that was a definite highlight of our season. Our home runs we hit were also very exciting.”
