The River Falls High School softball team had a rough final week of its 2021 regular season. The Wildcats had lost four straight games before their playoff game against Eau Claire North began Monday, June 14.

The beginning of the fourgame losing streak was against Prescott on Friday, June 4. The final score was 14-9, but the Wildcats at least had a productive game offensively.

Leading the offense were right fielder and lone senior, Lily Griffin and shortstop, Jordan Schwantz. Griffin went 3 for 4 in the game with a double and three RBI. Schwantz also went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Lilly Burke hit a home run for the Wildcats in Friday night’s game as well.

Monday, June 7 was a game the Wildcats would certainly like to forget. The Wildcats lost 19-0 against Chippewa Falls, having the game end after three innings due to the 15-run mercy rule.

The next day the Wildcats recovered a bit from their devastating loss to Chippewa Falls. Although the losing streak continued, the Wildcats had a final of 13-3 against Eau Claire North. Eau Claire North wasted no time getting runs on the board, scoring six runs in the top of the first against the Wildcats. The Wildcats were able to shut out Eau Claire North in the second and fifth innings, but for the rest of the game they were unable to keep the bats quiet.

Thursday, June 10 the Wildcats had their first game where they scored first against their opponent for the first time since May 25. Although they scored first, it was not enough to keep Eau Claire North from winning the game 10-4. Left fielder Lexi Myer-Castano and third baseman Lyla Kohel both had strong games for the WIldcats. Myer-Castano went 3 for 4 with a double and Kohel batted a perfect 3 for 3 in her plate appearances for the day.
