The Spring Valley Cardinals moved to 3-0 on the season defeating the Glenwood City Hilltoppers by a score of 42-22 Friday.

The game was a shootout all the way through the first half, which ended in a near tie with the Cardinals behind by one point at halftime with a score of 22-21. However, the defense came alive in the second half as Spring Valley blanked the Hilltoppers while the offense continued its rampage, putting up 23 more points in the third and fourth quarters.

Overall, the defense did a solid job on the night holding Glenwood City to 6-11 on 3rd downs and 1-3 on 4th downs.

Individual standout performers include Cardinals Quarterback Wyatt Goveronski who completed 2-3 passes for two touchdowns and rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns on 20 attempts. Kaden Robelia also had a big night catching both of Goveronski’s passes for 35 yards and two touchdowns while also catching an interception and even rushing for 20 yards on his only attempt. Finally, Diego Schmitt continued building on his MVP caliber season Friday night, putting up 136 yards on 20 carries and catching an interception.

The Spring Valley Cardinals (3-0) will look to keep things rolling as they head to Colfax next week to play the Vikings (1-2). Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Elmwood-Plum City

The Elmwood-Plum City Wolves were defeated by the Clear Lake Warriors by a score of 27-0 on Friday night in Clear Lake.

It was a tough night for the Wolves as they only put up 175 total yards of offense. Aaden Birtzer only attempted two passes and rushed for 11 yards on nine carries. The lone bright spot for the offense was Blake Allen, who rushed for 100 yards on 20 carries and ran it back for 40 combined yards on two kick returns.

With this, the Wolves move to a 1-2 record on the season and will look to rebound this week as they travel to Cadott to play the Hornets (0-3) this Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Prescott Cardinals

The Prescott Cardinals moved to 3-0 on the season, beating the Osceola Chieftains by a score of 22-13 on Friday in Osceola.

The first half was mostly a defensive game with the exception of two big plays in the firstnquarter, one by each team. After Osceola put up a 46-yard rushing score, Prescott answered back with a 57-yard catch and run by Will Packard to even the score at 7-7.

The second half is when Prescott pulled away, however, beginning with a 16-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter and ending with a 6-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter, both by Barrett Temmers. The Chieftains would add another passing touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Cardinals.

It wasn’t the cleanest victory for Prescott as they lost three fumbles on the night. However, they did win the turnover battle with three interceptions and a forced fumble of their own. Overall, the Cardinals defense was solid again, holding the Chieftains to 9-18 on 3rd downs and 1-6 on 4th downs.

Temmers was the player of the game on both sides of the ball, putting up 113 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries while adding a staggering three interceptions to his resume. Temmers now leads the state with five total interceptions through three games.

The Cardinals will look to maintain their perfect season when they travel to Somerset to play the Spartans (1-2) this Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

River Falls Wildcats

River Falls fell to 2-1 on Friday, losing to the Tigers in New Richmond by a score of 28-19.

After a complete defensive game by both teams in the first quarter, it was still 0-0 as the game entered the second 12 minutes of play. However, the Tigers were able to put the Wildcats securely behind the 8-ball going on an offensive spree in the second quarter.

After putting two drives together both cumulating in short yardage touchdowns, one passing and one rushing, the Tigers connected on a deep shot which went for 60 yards and a touchdown to finish first half scoring at 20-0.

The Wildcats were a different team in the second half only allowing a single score the rest of the way while putting up three scores of their own, two passing and one rushing. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback, though.

The Wildcats will look to get back on track at home this week as they host the Hudson Raiders (2-1). Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
