Young Wildcat softball team has depth

The young Wildcats (0-3) softball team has just one senior and four juniors on this year’s roster. The only returning contributor is senior Lily Griffin.

The Wildcats will be led by sophomore captains Avery Amidon and Ali Laube; they count depth as one of their strengths.

“We are a very young team, with depth at several positions,” Coach Chantele Torrez said. “Our pitching will be stronger than it has in the past along with our aggressiveness on the basepaths.”

Torrez expects Hudson and Chippewa Falls to lead the BRC this season and hopes the Wildcats finish in the top five this year. Before Torrez was at the helm, the Wildcats finished seventh of seven teams in the 2019 season with a 3-18 record.

The Wildcats hosted Hudson for a doubleheader last week Thursday, dropping both contests to the Raiders. In two shutouts, Hudson scored 18 in the first game and eight in the second match.

Last Friday, River Falls hosted New Richmond and fell, 6-13.

River Falls hosted Menomonie on Tuesday after the printing of this publication, and travels to Menomonie Thursday for a rematch before hosting Baldwin-Woodville for a non-conference matchup this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
