40 years ago PIERCE COUNTY HERALD Sept. 16, 1982 Happening some 40 years ago, a street dance was due to be held at Maiden Rock. Sponsored by the fire department, it would feature two bands: “Ladigo” and “Blue Canyon.” Tickets could be purchased from Maiden Rock firemen and local businesses, it was made known.

55 years ago RIVER FALLS JOURNAL Sept. 21, 1967 Coming in from 55 years ago, the River Falls planning commission gave conditional approval to a new Newman Center at Fifth and Cascade at its Monday meeting. The new Center was to be 58 feet wide along Cascade and 92 feet long on Fifth Street. A house on the corner lot adjacent was expected to be sold and moved, with construction starting as soon as approval was obtained from the State Industrial Commission. Named for Cardinal John Henry Newman, such centers are common on contemporary campuses.

As to college sports news, the Falcons upset the Platteville Pioneers 13-12 in a Saturday game, having formerly lost to Augsburg 33-0. The difference between the team that lost against Augsburg and the one that won over favored Platteville, was reportedly “night and day.” Sept, 14, 1967
