Girls Golf
Prescott won the Middle Border Conference title and Ellsworth finished fourth of eight at the conference championship meet in Amery. Seniors Layla Salay and Macy Reiter of Prescott finished first and second, and Ellsworth senior Emma Helgeson tied for third.
River Falls put up a great score of 364 in Menomonie to finish second at the Big Rivers Conference meet behind only Hudson’s 355. Senior Elsie Schmid finished second with a 78, one stroke off the individual title. Sophomore Olivia Lick tied for sixth. All three teams now prepare for the postseason, starting with their Regional assignments.
Football
EPC had its Saturday Homecoming game spoiled by an undefeated unit out of Glenwood City 42-16. The Wolves are now 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference. EPC actually posted the most points the Glenwood City defense has allowed all year.
River Falls finally met its match in conference play to fall to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in Big Rivers Conference action. The Wildcats were facing an undefeated New Richmond squad, and after a solid fight in the first half, the Tigers pulled away for a 35-14 win. Junior running back Trevor Bartlett took 18 carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and senior Charlie Burke had 88 receiving yards. Next up, the Wildcats play their rivalry game against Hudson on the road Friday.
Spring Valley also lost a conference game for the first time all year 16-6 to Boyceville to fall to 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the Big Rivers Conference. The Cardinals are still in the running for the conference title, in second place behind 4-0 Glenwood City.
Ellsworth lost 40-18 to Middle Border Conference contending Amery. The Panthers found their way offensively to the tune of 18 points but are still looking for a win this year. Rounding out the week, Prescott dropped to 1-5 on the season after losing 42-0 to an Osceola team that is 4-0 in the Middle Border.
Volleyball
Ellsworth and Prescott got into a five-set classic, but it was the Panthers that secured a win on their home floor. Ellsworth trailed by a significant margin in each of the first four sets, finding it in them to come back in two of the four to secure a set five.
River Falls is 4-0 in conference play after laying a smackdown on Eau Claire Memorial 3-0. Spring Valley made quick work of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 3-1 and Boyceville 3-0. EPC won 3-2 over Durand-Arkansaw and 3-0 over Colfax to secure a 2-0 week of its own.
Cross Country
Ellsworth was the talk of the town at the Durand-Arkansaw meet, winning the boys race as a team, with Mackenzie Hince and Adolfo Mendez winning the girls and boys races individually. Spring Valley and EPC also had solid evenings at the meet.
Prescott and River Falls were in the massive Nightfall Classic in Marshfield. Kyra Dix set a new school record for Prescott with an 18:12 and a win in the Division 2 Girls race. Micaiah Black finished second in the Division 1 Boys race for River Falls.
Girls Tennis
After dropping early week matchups 4-3 against Rice Lake and 7-0 against Barron, Ellsworth closed a strong regular season with 5-2 and 6-1 wins over Barron and Osceola. River Falls lost its lone matchup 7-0 to Menomonie to conclude the regular season.
The Panthers head to the Middle Border Conference meet Sept. 29 and River Falls will compete in the Big Rivers Conference meet at Eau Claire North the same day.
Boys Soccer
River Falls lost a conference match 4-0 against New Richmond and a non-conference matchup 5-0 against Holmen before having a game against Menomonie postponed due to weather over the weekend. The Wildcats got a win over Osceola a week prior and will look to build off of that moving forward.
Girls Swimming and Diving
It was a busy week for the River Falls Wildcats, competing at Hill-Murray and Hudson and in a weekend invitational at Eau Claire North. River Falls has about a month of action remaining before the Halloween weekend Big Rivers Conference meet.
