RF announces allocation of funds in support of West Central Biosolids Facility

RIVER FALLS – West Central Biosolids wastewater recycling facility in Ellsworth serves 21 communities in Wisconsin and Minnesota. This facility is a crucial final step in wastewater treatment to keep the state’s water safe and clean.

The infrastructure and equipment at West Central Biosolids need improvements as large portions of the facility are nearing the end of their functionality. Leadership from West Central Biosolids has been exploring options to remodel and renew infrastructure to maintain the current levels of service provided to its partners.

On Feb. 23, 2021, the River Falls City Council adopted support of West Central Biosolids facility improvements in their legislative funding priority’s agenda. On March 15, 2022, President Joe Biden signed the bipartisan omnibus appropriations package into law that includes $1.6 million to address the end-of-life stage infrastructure issues faced by West Central Biosolids.

“I am pleased that we were able to secure $1.6 million in upfront facility modification costs,” said River Falls Mayor Dan Toland. “This allocation is a significant benefit to River Falls and surrounding communities.”

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District Representative, Ron Kind, assisted River Falls in securing this allocation.
