Effective Dec. 1, 2021, Edward D. Phelka, Major General, Civil Air Patrol National Commander awarded service ribbons to all Civil Air Patrol members. The Red Wing Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron, with almost 30 members, each received the service ribbon. The CAP Crisis Service Ribbon was established to recognize the CAP membership during periods when the entire organization was under significant stress responding to a lengthy nationwide emergency.

The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in CAP’s most noteworthy national service since World War II. Regular operations continued while new missions were explored, millions of meals delivered to the needy, thousands of blood donations were made, and distribution of masks and vaccines were completed across the country. At times when simply holding a regular squadron meeting was challenging due to isolation restrictions, CAP members served the nation and ensured CAP’s continued operations.

The Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force, has three primary missions: Aerospace education of the American people, emergency services, and the Cadet Program. The Cadet Program provides opportunities for the learning, Cadet Master Sgt. With the advice and assistance from CAP Senior Members and the US Air Force, cadets are exposed to a structured program comprised of aerospace education, leadership, special activities, physical fitness, and moral and ethical values through group and individual activities. Individuals older than 18 may join as adult members.
