ELLSWORTH – Ellsworth Community Development Corporation recently received a $15,000 grant from Nestle Purina PetCare Company to construct a new community dog park.

The vision of the new dog park is to solidify and strengthen a community of dog lovers and provide a safe environment for dogs to socialize, exercise and play in the community. The new dog park will be the first pet-friendly, controlled amenity for dogs in Ellsworth and several surrounding communities.

“All of us at Purina believe that pets and people are better together, and it’s exciting to know that a new dog park will soon open in our region that’ll serve hundreds of pets and owners,” said new Purina (Hager City) factory manager Candace Claeys. “We’re grateful to the leaders in Ellsworth for identifying this need and working to make this vision a reality.”

Ellsworth is known for cheese curds and its annual Cheese Curd Festival, which welcomes more than 30,000 people each year. The new dog park will provide visitors traveling to Ellsworth a place to safely engage with their pets. The dog park project is being overseen by the Ellsworth E3 Community Development, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

“We are so grateful to Purina’s support as we continue making progress on the new dog park in Ellsworth,” said Karissa Dougherty of Ellsworth E3. “More visitors will be able to visit Ellsworth with pets and have the peace of mind that there’ll be a safe place for their pets to play, engage and explore.”

Ellsworth E3 CDC strives to improve the quality of life for the people in the community by creating, managing and sharing resources to meet the current and future needs of the Ellsworth community. The group provides resources and oversight to community projects like the new Ellsworth Dog Park.

This donation is being granted through the Nestle Purina Trust Fund, established by Purina founder William H. Danforth to provide critical support to important community causes. The company is investing more than $1 million in its communities this year through several capital and capacity- building grants to support local nonprofit organizations. Over the past five years, Purina has contributed more than $150 million towards organizations that bring and keep people and pets together, as well as those that help our communities and environments thrive.
