Ellsworth Police Department reports: Aug. 25-31, 2025

The following incidents were reported to Ellsworth Police Department Aug. 25-31, 2025.
Monday, Aug. 25
At 9:32 a.m., police were notified that someone had come to the back door of 209 S. Chestnut St. two days in a row. A man was found picking apples from a tree on the property. He said he didn’t have permission because no one would answer the door. He was told to leave the property and that he couldn’t just take things without permission.
Jerry Wayne Wilhite, 54, Ellsworth, was arrested for a probation warrant at 10 a.m. at 310 W. Main St.
Police checked on a woman just released from jail spotted at 12:01 p.m. at 501 W. Lucas Lane. She was given a courtesy ride to Red Wing.
Landon Mark Matzek, 19, Prescott, was cited for operating motor vehicle without insurance after a traffic stop at 3:16 p.m. at Main and Grant streets.
Officers stood by for a meeting at 9:32 p.m. at 414 W. Main St. The 4-H educator had concerns of potential arguments.
Police assisted with a wanted subject at 10:09 p.m. at 456 W. Main St.
Tuesday, Aug. 26
Police conducted a welfare check at 11:48 a.m. at 459 W. Main St.
Officers responded to an out-of-control juvenile complaint at 7:40 p.m. at a home in the 500 block of West Mitchell Street. The child calmed down.
Wednesday, Aug. 27
Police assisted county deputies with an armed domestic at 9:43 a.m. at W6748 450th, Ellsworth. They helped establish a perimeter and direct traffic.
Officers performed a welfare check at 1:26 p.m. at 404 High Point Drive. The person didn’t need help.
Keith William Shonkwiler, 63, Ellsworth, was arrested for operating after revocation after a traffic stop at 7:37 p.m. at Highway 10 and Hill Street.
At 9:32 p.m., police received a complaint about a man on a homemade bike with an engine riding in a parking lot behind 232 N. Wallace St. He was not located. A suspect was named.
Thursday, Aug. 28
Police were called at 12:57 p.m. to 445 S. Piety St. for an out-of-control student. The child refused to calm down, continuing to hit, kick, bite and throw things. EMS transported them to the hospital.
At 7:47 p.m., police received complaints that a BP employee (101 N. Maple St.) appeared to be sleeping on the job. Everything was okay.
Police located an ankle monitor at 9:57 p.m. at 412 W. Kinne St.
Friday, Aug. 29
Police checked on a vehicle parked after hours at 1:09 a.m. at 100 W. Grove St. The person appeared to be having mental health problems and was told to move along.
Officers assisted EMS at 1:40 p.m. at 271 E. Summit Ave.
At 8:07 p.m., a caller reported her vehicle stolen from Dar and Susan streets. Police saw the vehicle parked at the location and spoke to another party about the vehicle’s ownership. The parties were informed it’s a civil issue.
Saturday, Aug. 30
Officers assisted EMS at 12:20 a.m. at 455 E. Wall St.
At 5:07 a.m., police were informed of a loud party that had been going on all night at 721 E. Campbell St. The resident said he would shut the party down. A drunk female was found on the ground in front of the house. At 6:45 a.m., a caller reported banging noises coming from the location. They were given their final warning about the noise and advised to stop burning cans and plastic.
Police saw a suspicious man drive into the Highway Shop lot at 8:14 a.m., then through the Recycling Center lot at 707 N. Maple St. He had a truck full of scrap but left quickly.
Sunday, Aug. 31
Police were dispatched to an assault at 6:53 a.m. at 155 E. Susan St. The suspect took off on foot. A K9 tracker was deployed but the suspect wasn’t immediately located. Chase Gerald Kohl, 41, River Falls, was later located and arrested for battery and a probation warrant.
Police received a fireworks complaint at 8:34 p.m. at Pond and Campbell streets. It was determined to be in the county.
