TOWN OF OAK GROVE – A high speed pursuit winding through Oak Grove township resulted in the arrest of one Hager City man during the early morning hours of Oct. 25.

Randy Ray Wilkens, 41, was ordered to pay $2,500 cash bail Oct. 26 in Pierce County Circuit Court on a felony vehicle operator flee/elude officer charge. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of six years in prison and/or fines up to $10,000.

According to the complaint:

At 4:27 a.m. Oct. 25, dispatchers notified Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies of a pursuit heading from Dakota County, Minn., into Prescott on Highway 10. Wilkens, a suspect in a domestic incident in Minnesota, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado.

Wilkens turned off Highway 10 onto 1040th Street in the town of Oak Grove. Pierce County joined the chase behind two Hastings squad and one Prescott officer.

The truck continued northbound on 1040th Street before turning east onto 620th Avenue. When it reached County Road E, it turned southbound. When the truck reached 570th Avenue, Wilkens turned west, blew a stop sign near Highway 10, then continued westbound on Highway 10. One squad’s speed was clocked at 90 mph; the officer noted they weren’t gaining or losing distance on the suspect’s truck.

A Pierce County sergeant successfully deployed spike strips east of 1040th Street. The vehicle slowed to about 50 mph, but turned southbound on County Road QQ. It continued southbound onto Highway 35 going about 50 mph, eventually stopping just south of 1050th Street.

Officers ordered Wilkens out of the vehicle onto his stomach, at which point they handcuffed him. Once in custody, Hastings police interviewed him. Before being taken to Pierce County Jail, he was medically cleared at River Falls Area Hospital because he had been exposed to pepper spray during the domestic incident in Hastings.

At the jail, he was cited for fail/stop at stop sign and speeding.

A preliminary hearing is set for 3:30 p.m. Nov. 4. An extradition hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 5.
