Ellsworth girls tennis finished fourth in the eight-team Middle Border Conference Tournament to finish fourth in the overall conference standings on the year, a top half placement.
Head Coach Brad Baker said they have had a good season this year, and their roster of 23 girls has taken on some tough competition in stride.
Varsity singles is made up of Bailey Oleson, Jianna Jean, Maggie Pechacek and Mady Maxwell. For doubles it’s the duos of Brooks Olson/Alissa Davis, Bridget Dendinger/Maia Friesen and Anna Oleson/Aria Mennenga. Top four finishers at the conference event were Jean and Olson/Davis taking third in No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles, as well as No. 3 singles Pechacek, No. 4 singles Maxwell and No. 2 doubles Dendinger/Friesen all taking fourth.
Sub-Sectionals were Oct. 6 at Amery with Sectionals Oct. 10 in Eau Claire. No. 1 singles and doubles need to win one match to advance to Sectionals with the rest of the competitors needing two wins to move on.
Ellsworth ended the year 10-11 in dual meets and 5-2 in conference matches. With the solid conference tournament performances, Baker is excited to see his team take to the court in the postseason.
