The Prescott Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony will be held this Saturday at the high school._Nick Schommer, Char Magee and Roy Finley are slated to become the 12th, 13th, and 14th members of the Prescott Hall of Fame._Tickets are still available and can be purchased online via the Prescott School District website and are also available at Prescott High School, Croix Insurance and City Hall.__ The Prescott girls golf team clubbed their way to a convincing victory in last Wednesday’s WIAA Division 2 Regional tournament._ Ava Salay topped the leaderboard with a round of 77 and Jessica Heinsch, Liz Rohl, Rhianna Stutz and Maddie Reiter all finished in the top 10 as the Cardinals cruised to a firstplace finish. St. Croix Central finished second and Regis/Altoona finished third. As you read this, the hope is the girls will have qualified for their third consecutive WIAA State Tournament._ The impressive net play of ninth graders Aubryn Ennenga and Nicole Ptacek, and 10th graders Reese Ptacek and Lila Posthuma proved to be too much for Amery as the Cardinals defeated the Warriors three games to one._The Cardinals will play their final home match of the season this Thursday against Osceola. Middle Border Conference leader St. Croix Central is listed as Honorable Mention by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association.__ Senior running back Aiden Russell_ran for over 100 yards for the sixth time last Friday and has rushed for 922 yards on season. It has been quite some time since a Prescott running back ran for 1,000 during the regular season._ Prescott’s high-powered offenses of the 1990’s and early 2000’s featured multiple weapons including the likes of running backs Craig Lubich, Scott Murphy, Mark Hildebrandt, Eric Meier, Mark Dewitz and Matt Duchnowski._Additionally, the highly regarded Cardinal wishbone potent running quarterbacks in Pat Simones, Jason Bayer, Dave Harding, Nate Hendrickson, and Eric Halverson. __ La Crosse Aquinas comes to Laney Field this Friday with a record of 7-0 and are the #4 ranked team in Division 5._The Blugolds have assured themselves of at least a tie for the Coulee Conference Championship. _ Junior Quarterback Jackson Flottmeyer leads the Blugold attack with 24 touchdown passes and only one interception this season._Friday’s matchup_marks the first regular season game of any kind between the Cardinals and La Crosse Aquinas. In tournament play, the Cardinal basketball team has played the Blugold three times, the girls basketball team has played Aquinas once, and the Prescott baseball team has played Aquinas twice in WIAA post season play.__ Prescott High School alumnus Joe Schulte will be wrestling at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire._A 2019 Cardinal grad, Schulte finished his prep career with a record of 125-15._Nicole Dalman, a two-time All Conference selection, will be playing basketball at St. Catherine’s in St. Paul this year._Ella Linder will be running track at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as will Caleb Royal and Sammy Braunlich._Brett Nelson, another former Cardinal thinclad, will be competing in track and field at UW-Stout._ Speaking of alumni, University of Wisconsin Club Baseball Coach Jeff Block and his team have been playing this fall._ Father and WBCA Hall of Famer Steve Block has assisted his son Jeff over the past couple years. A 1997 Prescott alumnus, Jeff was an all-conference outfielder for the team that advanced to the WIAA State Tournament._ From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources: The results for the latest wildlife reports are now available at the department website. The reports are divided into surveys addressing five species groups, including small game, big game, waterfowl, furbearers and nongame. The wildlife surveys are conducted throughout 2020-2021 by DNR staff and dedicated volunteers. The DNR’s wildlife program managers use the survey results to help make decisions on species management. And speaking of the outdoors, congratulations to Prescott High School senior Mason Lewis on harvesting an impressive nine-point whitetail recently. Bear hunters east of Frederic, Wis. harvested a 640-pound black bear two weeks ago._Local hunting aficionado Dave French surmised the huge bruin was about 20 years old._ Headshaker of the week:_ As a baseball fan I could not help but wonder what Jeff Block and others were thinking when they found out that Camp Randall Stadium was to be renamed in honor of former Badger Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Barry Alvarez._ The Iowa native has served as the primary stumbling block for Block and others who have worked tirelessly to bring baseball back to the state’s flagship university as a NCAA affiliated program._ For us baseball folks, naming a stadium after the person who has stood in the way of bringing back baseball to Madison? It’s a headshaker._
