TOWN OF MARTELL – A passerby reported a housefire in the town of Martell the afternoon of Monday, Jan. 30 and unfortunately, the home was a total loss.
At 3:19 p.m. Ellsworth Fire Department responded to W5398 State Road 29, Spring Valley, where the home was fully engulfed in flames. Nobody was home at the time of the fire and no people or pets were injured.
According to Ellsworth Assistant Fire Chief Syd Hardy, the cause is undetermined and still under investigation. Pierce County land records list the property owners as Jamie Walker Black and Orville H. Black. The property is home to an organic farm operation.
Hardy said Ellsworth sent 23 firefighters, and received mutual aid from Spring Valley Fire (with eight to 10 responders), River Falls Fire (one tanker) and Spring Valley Area Ambulance. Approximately 11 apparatus responded to the fire, with tenders going to River Falls to fill with water.
“The fire did spread briefly to a shed, but was extinguished quickly there,” Hardy said.
The Red Cross was notified in order to provide aid to the home’s occupants. Hardy was not sure how many people lived in the home.
The home at W5398 State Road 29 in the town of Martell was deemed a total loss after a fire on Monday, Jan. 30. This photo, taken Friday, Feb. 4 from the road, shows some of the damage.
