Letter to the editor: Voting records, truth matter

Posted

To the editor,

A leader's job is to be guided by values and principles and lead with integrity, honesty, and truth.

Authentic leaders don't do polls and then say whatever might fly, regardless of the truth.

I've been polled several times on behalf of the Assembly District 30 Republican incumbent, Shannon Zimmerman. Pollsters asked for reactions to factually inaccurate and disparaging claims about the Democratic challenger, Alison Page. I'm an informed voter, I knew the allegations were misleading, and I wasn't swayed. But soon after the polling, those false innuendos about Alison Page appeared in Shannon Zimmerman's campaign ads.

We voters deserve better than that.

The AD 30 Republican candidate should run his campaign on the truth about his own voting record and positions on issues and government policies, not on falsehoods about the Democratic candidate.

Don't be fooled. Get informed. Learn the facts about a candidate's voting record and positions on issues and government policies that matter to you at Ballotpedia.org and VoteSmart.org, and from voter guides by the nonpartisan League of Women Voters at Vote411.org, journalists at Wisconsin Watch, and many issue-focused groups.

Vote for the candidate you can trust to tell the truth. In AD 30, that's Alison Page.

Alison Page's values and principles are why she pledges to vote for lowering costs to working families and people on fixed incomes; increasing our access to healthcare, including reproductive health services without government intrusion; investing in our public schools to prepare students for good careers and higher education; protecting our air, water, and soil; supporting local industries and promoting economic development; and preserving our democracy, elections, and voting rights.

Alison Page's integrity, honesty, and respect for the truth are why she doesn't need to smear her opponent to get elected.

Vote for Alison Page's leadership in AD 30.
