To the editor,
Seven years ago, my husband and I built our retirement home in River Falls. We chose River Falls because of its clear sense of community – beautiful green spaces, responsive government, strong civic connections, great schools. Now the school district is asking for the support of the community in passing a tax levy increase. While there are many noble and abstract reasons to support our schools, I am going to vote for the tax increase for a very selfish one.
As a retiree, I depend upon a lifetime of investments and savings for a good portion of my income. My home is a primary investment whose value is important to me. There is no denying the direct connection between property values and good schools. In order to remain a great community we must have a strong and stable education system. An investment in the school district is an investment in my own property.
