Letter to the editor: Bergseng is a proven candidate

Posted

To the editor,

Dean Bergseng has been on our Pierce County Board for 10 years. Among his many accomplishments on the board, We’d like to highlight his support for the Pierce County Fairgrounds, the Pierce County Fair and his goals for their future.

Many know that the Pierce County Fair runs four days every August. But did you know that the fairgrounds are used all year round? According to the Pierce County website, the fairgrounds are used by “approximately 47 groups and organizations annually.” Buildings can be reserved for events and meetings. Residents can rent winter storage space in the animal barns. Picnic shelters can be reserved for use with family reunions and events. There are FFA and 4-H educational programs also held throughout the year. Goals for improvements include improved parking and more campsites.

Dean recently worked with an acoustics company to improve the quality of sound in the Seyforth Building. This project was approved by the Fair Board and County Board. Dean saw a problem and worked to find an economical solution.

Known for collaboration and problem solving, Dean worked with the Fair Board to make improvements to the picnic shelter. Working with Mark Kelly, upgrades to the shelter were completed within budget.

As a means to generate revenue for the fair, a beer garden was proposed. Dean worked on this committee with the goal of keeping the area separate from the youth centered areas, the barns and the exhibit halls of the fair. He circulated a petition at the fair and talked to county residents to find common ground and a good location for the beer garden. It has been a positive change and has helped the fair finances.

Along with the improvements to our fairgrounds, we appreciate Dean’s care for the history the fair. Our fair dates back to 1884. Dean was instrumental in 2023 to coordinate and produce a history display to showcase the longevity and success of the fair. He formed a work group to collect artifacts and photos. This slide show and display was shared with fair attendees in the Seyforth building throughout the fair.

We appreciate Dean Bergseng’s desire to serve the community and his proven integrity. He has been involved in local government at the township and county level. He supports law enforcement and veterans. He is open to ideas, consults stake holders and cooperates toward a positive outcome. Please vote for Dean Bergseng on April 2. Your support of a proven quality candidate is important for the thoughtful growth and preservation of values in our county.
