Letter to the editor: Legislation collecting dust

Posted

To the editor,

The population of Ellsworth is just over 3,000. As reported by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), roughly 13,000 illegal immigrants entered the United States through President Biden’s wide open southern border in the last 48 hours. It is unsustainable and dangerous to allow for a rate of illegal immigration that can quadruple the population of hometowns like mine in two days.

The Republican controlled House, with the support of Congressman Derrick Van Orden, passed the strongest border security bill in modern history - H.R. 2, Secure the Border Act of 2023. This legislation provides real solutions to restore command of our southern border, enhances our national security, and protects unaccompanied minors who are victimized by cartels.

Unfortunately, H.R. 2 is now collecting dust in the Democrat controlled Senate. For the sake of our national security, it would be wise for politicians in Washington to rally behind leaders like Derrick Van Orden, who fight to secure an end to this humanitarian crisis.
