To the editor,
This letter is in response to Cindy Fuhrmann letter regarding “Move the Compost Site.”
Ms. Fuhrmann, first of all, let me say I am sorry for all the health problems that your husband has been
experiencing.
While you say an air test was completed showing "high" levels, what does that mean? If the levels were in
violation of a standard that the State Air Resources Board requires for testing criteria, then the city would have a major problem; and you would certainly have legal recourse if the city took no corrective action.
The site you propose on Highway FF next to the dog park is a capped landfill that is currently leased for ag use. And YES, there ARE people living out here, VERY close to that site. In fact, that city property is directly across the highway from my house. There are many neighbors that live adjacent to, and in short proximity of, that location. Don't forget the visitors to the dog park either.
If the air quality is unacceptable as you propose, and can be confirmed to violate air quality standards, then the city will be required to take action. I would recommend a site, as you say, that is away from people. The property you suggest on Highway FF does not meet this criteria.
