To the editor,
In a recent letter to the editor in the Journal, Derrick Van Orden's course language was justified by saying that everyone talks that way. I think that our national leaders and officials should be held to higher standards.
Van Orden is just another sad example of the decline of the once-respected GOP. We have the former Speaker of the House allegedly kidney punching one of his fellow members. Another GOP Senator wanted a fist fight with a committee witness at a public hearing. These Congress members took days of embarrassing wrangling and fighting to choose the Speaker of the House from their own members and then removed him after a few months which is totally unprecedented in the history of our country. These are more like the antics of teenaged delinquents and not appropriate for the representatives of a great nation. It seems that our standards of decorum have sunk to a new low.
