To the editor,
My reflections after marching at the MN Capitol. Rise up!
I’m mad as hell and I’m not taking it anymore. I’m done with fear, intimidation, and relentless lies. I’m done with the pain, starvation, victimization, and suffering inflicted on those who can’t defend themselves. I’m done with the dismantling of our government and Constitution. My retirement, my Social Security, and my freedoms are being destroyed by Trump and his cowardly followers controlling the country. (We are witnessing a nation anesthetized to moral injury, choking on lies, cruelty, betrayal, and decay—and being told to call it patriotism. Gayle Rose) YOUR FREEDOMS are being stolen too!
It’s time to act! So what can we do? Here are a few suggestions:
1. Reengage, don’t numb yourself to what’s happening. Listen to multiple news sources and form your own opinions. Fact-check, talk to your people, listen to diverse viewpoints. Challenge misinformation. Engage in critical thinking. How will this impact those I care most about?
2. Show your representatives how you feel. Call, text, donate, march, pray, post, scream from the rooftops if you have to. The most important leverage we have is their fear of losing their elected positions. Make sure they know their reelection is at stake! (This is crucial folks.)
3. Join activist groups who share your vision of the future. Create good, necessary, and peaceful trouble. Collaborate with your community. Be creative! Know you’re not alone. Retake your power.
4. Conquer your fears. Realize your children will look back and judge your actions as they live with the consequences of this attempted coup. Consider how history will reflect on today’s madness and lack of empathy. If you don’t act, who will? Your silence will make you complicit.
I’m writing this because I’m fearful for myself, my family, and the world. This is a right versus wrong decision, not a political contest. This is a moral decision. Please rise up my friends! Together we succeed; divided, it’s going to be a very different country and world than we were lucky enough to have lived in.
THE POWER OF THE PEOPLE IS GREATER THAN THE PEOPLE IN POWER!
