To the editor,
Wisconsin’s winter is in full force and for 280,000 Wisconsin families that means keeping an eye on their propane tank, so they don’t run out of fuel to heat their home. But if radical environmentalists get their way, and the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline is shut down, when those families call to get propane delivered, nobody may answer their call.
Line 5 is a critical part of our regional propane supply. It transports natural gas liquids to propane facilities where those natural gas liquids are refined into usable propane that is then sold to homes, farms and businesses for heat during our long winters. If Line 5 is shut down, a major propane supplier has warned it could put Wisconsin into a propane state of emergency. In fact, that propane supplier – Plains Midstream – warned the Wisconsin DNR that if Line 5 is shut down “individuals may not have supply to heat their homes at any price.” You read that right. If Line 5 is closed, it may not just be a matter of paying more for propane – families may not have access at all.
Line 5 is too important for too many Wisconsinites to play political games. We need to keep Line 5 flowing.
