Letter to the editor: Lack of knowledge on federal immigration law

Posted

To the editor,

I read the comments from the River Falls residents regarding ICE operations that will come and have come into Pierce County. As a naturalized citizen for over 30 years I am shocked at the constitutional disregard or lack of knowledge regarding federal immigration law by natural born Americans. The US Constitution is supreme regarding the enumerated powers. In Article 1 section 8 it states:
To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, and Uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States... The immigration law stems from here. Second Article 6 clause 2 states: This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

So the states, counties and municipalities cannot oppose the enforcement of the immigration law by ICE. As regarding supposed arrest of citizens by one resident of River Falls, he provides no concrete examples. The other ignores that immigration laws matter. Only one stood for the truth about federal enforcement of federal immigration law. A sad situation.
