Letter to the editor: More choices in the election

To the editor,

Do you wish you had more choices for the April election? Our February primary left us with two candidates on the Supreme Court ballot. A better voting method such as Final Five Voting (FFV) would have allowed all four candidates, including both Jennifer Dorow and Everett Mitchell, to be on the April ballot. It would have helped the voters who wanted to vote for them while not worrying about splitting their vote.
There were a lot of people who had trouble deciding which candidate to vote for. FFV allows you to rank the top five candidates ensuring everyone's voices are heard. There would have been no reason for the Democratic or Republican Party to put money into the campaign of the candidate who they thought was weaker. Many Democrats gave Kelly money specifically because they felt better about their chances of beating him in the general election.
This process would be positive in so many ways: it would ensure the most popular candidate wins; it would mean candidates from smaller parties could have a better chance; it would end the toxic campaign ads we’re seeing right now.
You can learn more about Final Five Voting at https://gro-wwaction.org/bridge-the-divide/.
We need politicians who will work together to get things done without being bound by their party. Final Five Voting can help us with that. The future of our state depends on it!
