To the editor,
I want to talk about my mom, Patricia LaRue.
Mom is running for River Falls City Council. Hopefully by now you’ve had access to her resume, know the city oriented committees, commission and board she has served on. But I want you to know the Patricia LaRue I know.
Mom was one of those parents invited to all my friends’ weddings. Growing up in our home we had an “open-door policy.” Mom understood that to know who my sister Steffani and my friends were, was to let our friends hang out at our place. To wake up Saturday morning, count the feet sticking out from under the blankets on the living room floor and buy that many donuts. If a friend did not have a ride to the Hudson roller skating rink, Mom would pick them up and get them there.
Mom worked at Smead and Vollrath, all the while taking one or two University classes each semester. She stuck with it and graduated, with honors, ten years later.
We delivered newspapers, my sister and I, for the Pioneer Press. Every morning, Mom would drive one of us, and Dad the other, then switch the next morning. Mom said it was because, that two-hour timeframe (three on Sundays) she had our full attention to just talk, without a telephone or television in the background. A lot came from those talks.
Now she’s running for City Council. I cannot think of a harder worker, or a person more dedicated to the people of River Falls. She has ideas, she knows how to communicate. She’s smart. There is no doubt that my mom … Cal, Spencer and Kaylee’s grandma, will make an excellent addition to the City Council. Please vote for Mom. Thank you.
