To the editor,
The Republican party takes pride in its history and rightly so. Lincoln, Roosevelt, Margaret Chase Smith, Eisenhower, Day O’Connor, Reagan—all these men and women were Republicans who worked towards helping our country live up to its promise.
These politicians worked with Democrats to achieve their goals for our country. They had to make compromises. They put their country first.
How can we elect more people like these from both parties? Right now, there’s a bill with bipartisan support in our legislature. It proposes Final Five Voting for federal elections in Wisconsin. We will no longer be locked into voting for just one party in the primary.
We will vote for the candidate we feel can do the best job, regardless of party.
The top five vote-getters for each office will advance to the general election, where voters will have the opportunity to mark their first choice, followed by their second, followed by their third, etc. This gives voters more choice and more voice, which is better for everyone, and it makes sure the general election is more important than the party primary, where only a small number of people vote. It's time for our representatives to put their country first and vote for Final Five Voting. What has been going on
in the House of Representatives shows us that we need a change. Ask your state representatives to pass Senate Bill 528 today.
