To the editor,
The letter published in last week’s paper suggesting Sheriff Koranda wants “absolute authority” over Flock cameras is a serious mischaracterization of what the Sheriff said.
His comments were about the responsibility that comes with controlling sensitive law-enforcement information. He was expressing concern about who has access to that information and the importance of making sure the technology is used properly and responsibly.
In fact, Sheriff Koranda has also expressed a desire for an oversight group that includes members of the public and people who are not law-enforcement professionals to provide additional accountability.
That hardly sounds like someone seeking unchecked power. It sounds like someone who understands the responsibility that comes with the office.
