To the editor,
Nearly everyone associates red kettles with the Salvation Army. They are frequently seen outside doorways and in vestibules of businesses during November and December. Perhaps you’re one of the many valued volunteers who stand by them ringing a bell in hopes passersby will deposit donations. Perhaps you are one of those people who either drops cash in a kettle or donates using the QR Code provided as a convenience. Are you curious what happens to the donated money?
Donations made in red kettles in Pierce County go to help people in crisis who reside in Pierce County. Its important people realize that it makes a difference where they donate if they genuinely want their dollars to be used to assist those who live in a particular area.
But beyond that, would you like to know how people are helped? Would you like to be a part of stepping up to help someone in their hour of need and reaping the benefits of knowing you’ve made a difference?
After over 20 years of being what is called a voucher volunteer for the Salvation Army, I am retiring so I can devote more time to my other passions. If you have approximately 6 hours a week to devote to changing people’s lives, have access to a computer and the internet, and have the desire to give your life more purpose, you should consider being a voucher volunteer for the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army is looking for a volunteer to serve all of Pierce County, Wis., other than what lies in the River Falls School District.
There are no face-to-face meetings between the volunteers and the population served. All contact is done by phone from the convenience of one’s home.
If interested, call 715-307-4510 and leave a message. Someone, possibly me, will return your call so you can explore the possibility of becoming involved before deciding whether it is a good fit for you.
