To the editor,
Our president has been referring to himself as a king, with the White House even posting a likeness of him in a crown. It’s jarring, given our country’s long history of not being a monarchy, and our pride in the fact that we have ruled ourselves for nearly two-and-a-half centuries.
We say we don’t want a king, but now that we have one, at least one who thinks he is a king and is starting to act as if he has the powers of a king. I guess we should get used to being a monarchy. Goodbye to free and fair elections, hello to being taxed and governed by representatives chosen by and under the thumb of our king. It won’t be the first time this has happened in our world. I am sorry to see it coming, but the Rubber Stamp party that is in power has no interest in standing up for us. Time to bend your knee.
