When I learned that Meta's Mark Zuckerberg had donated to Donald Trump's campaign, I thanked my lucky stars that I have never had a Facebook account and I quickly deleted my Instagram account. When I learned again that Zuckerberg would be attending the inauguration, I felt my decision confirmed. But along with Zuckerberg was Jeff Bezos, the head of Amazon.
And so the wisdom of my mother, who years ago said she would never shop Amazon because of their horrible labor practices, reminded me that we can vote with our dollars as powerfully as we can with our ballots.
Today, I deleted my Prime membership along with the video streaming and shopping perks.
Trump and his billionaire financial supporters have duped and hoodwinked regular Americans into thinking that prices will be lower or that life will be better with the richest men in charge. These men have no idea what daily life is like for you and me, except through our spending habits. For weeks I have wondered what more I can do to add my voice to the resistance of this billionaire boys club and Trump chaos parade. Boycott is what I will do: My dollars matter and they can't have them.
