Local high school baseball and softball teams throughout Pierce County have been in action as they prepare for the up

coming playoff push as there is less than a week left in the reg

_ ular season.

The Prescott High School baseball team has gone on a bit of a cold streak over its last seven games. The Cardinals are now 1

_ 6 in their last seven games with the lone win coming against Amery on Tuesday, May 10.

_ Woodville twice and the Saint Croix Falls Saints twice, the last two being non

_ conference games as SCF belongs to the Heart O’North Conference.

Despite hitting a small losing streak, Prescott remains 5

_ 6 in Middle Border Conference games and is near the middle of the conference standings. The Cardinals have two conference games remaining this season. The first is against Saint Croix Central on Tuesday, May 17, and the second is against Somer _ set on Friday, May 20. Both of those games are slated to begin at 5 p.m.

________________________ __________________ The Ellsworth Panthers softball team is back above .500 in the Middle Border Conference standings with less than one week remaining in the regular season.

The young Panthers team, composed mostly of sophomores and juniors, competes in one of the best softball conferences in the state. It contains Baldwin _ Woodville, which went to the Division 2 state championship game last season, and the rival Prescott Cardinals, which went to the Division 3 state champi _

onship game last season.

_ 6 record has the Panthers in a tie for fourth place in the standings with Altoona, trailing Somerset (9

Getting back above .500 came with a 9

_ 4 victory at home on Friday, May 13, against the Saint Croix Central Panthers. In that game, Ellsworth trailed 0

_ 3 going to the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Panthers proceeded to score three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game 3

_ 3. In the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, Ellsworth outscored Saint Croix Central 6

_ 1 to secure the 9

_ 4 victory and improve to 7

_ 6 for the season in conference games.

The Panthers finish off their regular season with a game against the Amery Warriors on Monday, May 16. That game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.

____________________________ ____________________ Elmwood/Plum City got back into the win column with a

_ 5 drubbing of the Durand Panthers on Thursday, May 12, on the road. The meeting on Thursday evening was the second meeting of the year between the two programs.

The first meeting was on Tuesday, April 19, in a game that Durand won 18

_ 7. Since then, Elmwood/Plum City has contin _ ued to improve as a program and managed to turn the tables in the second game of the year.

The win improved the Wolves’ record to 3

_ 8 for the season and 2

_ 7 in the Dunn _ St. Croix Conference standings. The sea

_ son hasn’t gone great for Elmwood/Plum City. However, the Dunn

_ St. Croix Conference has been better this year than in recent years.

Elk Mound has had an outstanding season with an 11

_ 1 record in Dunn _ St. Croix Conference games. Boyceville has an impressive 9

_ 3 record in league play and Spring Valley has established a solid 7

_ 4 record in conference games.

The Wolves’ season continues on Tuesday, May 17, when they travel to Boyceville for a game against the second _ best team in the conference. That game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.

Elmwood/Plum City finished its regular season with two losses against Mondovi in a double _ header on Monday, May

16.

The Wolves struggled in the two games on Monday night against Mondovi with scores of 1

_ 5 and 1

_ 10, both losses, in the two games of the regular season finale at home. The Dunn _

St. Croix Conference for softball is nearly as good – if not bet

ter – than it is for the sport of baseball.

The conference is home to 13

_ 1 Mondovi and 11

_ 1 Elk Mound, two of the best teams on this side of the state in Divi

_

sion 4 softball. The Wolves finished the season with a 4

_ 14 record overall and a 3

_ 11 record in Dunn _ St. Croix Conference action.

Despite struggles in the regular season, Elmwood/Plum City will have a chance to play at least one more game in the post

_

season. Those brackets have not been officially released. How _ ever, based on available records, it’s likely that the Wolves will go on the road and play one of the highest seeds in the bracket.
