Over $61,000 raised at Coldest Night of the Year

Our Neighbors’ Place among the beneficiaries

The inaugural Coldest Night of the Year event in Hudson brought together over 200 compassionate walkers on Feb. 24. Coordinated by River Valley Charities, the event raised funds and awareness for individuals facing hurt, hunger, and homelessness in the community. Joining forces with over 250 other cities across North America, the Hudson event showcased a collective effort to support local programs serving the most vulnerable.

The Coldest Night of the Year raised over $61,000 to benefit four vital programs in western Wisconsin: Our Neighbors' Place, Operation Help, Grace Place, and the Hudson Backpack and Food Program. These funds will provide critical support for those facing hunger, homelessness, and other hardship throughout the St. Croix Valley.

"We are overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of our community," said Andy Johnson, Executive Director of River Valley Charities. "The outpouring of collaborative support from walkers, sponsors, and volunteers truly embodies the spirit of Coldest Night of the Year. Thanks to everyone's efforts, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most."

The event's success was fueled by:

  • Lead sponsor: RiverRidge Home
  • Supporting sponsors: Creative Homes, FNC Bank, Westfields Hospital & Clinic, Hudson Hospital & Clinic, Ciranda, Derrick Companies, and Shepherd of the Valley Church, plus many other rest stop, route, and non-monetary sponsors.
  • The dedication of over 200 walkers and 50 volunteers: Their fundraising efforts and participation were instrumental in raising awareness and crucial funds.
  • Midcurrent Church: Graciously providing the venue for the event.
  • Food donations: The Subhouse, Ready Randy's, St. Croix Baking Company, Caribou Coffee, Ptacek's IGA, and Urban Olive and Vine generously provided a post-walk meal for participants.

Looking ahead, River Valley Charities is already excited for the second annual Coldest Night of the Year, scheduled for Feb. 22, 2025. The organization encourages the community to mark their calendars and join them in the fight for a brighter future for all.

River Valley Charities envisions a St. Croix Valley where everyone has a safe and secure place to call home, access to quality nutrition, and the chance to build a brighter future.  To learn about further ways to support their mission, visit RiverValleyCharities.com
