Officers responded to a crack cutter vs. vehicle crash at 2:13 p.m. July 26 on Highway 72 just west of Birch Street in Elmwood. A 1999 Mercury GMQ, driven by Larry Dale Stork, 75, Menomonie, was traveling west through Elmwood in a construction zone. The westbound lane was closed and traffic was diverted to the eastbound lane. After he passed the flagman, he drove back into the westbound lane and approached a highway worker operating a crack cutter on the center line. As the crack cutter operator, Cody Matthew Hanson, Plum City, attempted to rotate the machine in a counterclockwise direction over the center line, Stork went into the eastbound lane and hit the crack cutter with his right front corner and mirror. Hanson was not injured, but the machine was flipped onto its side after impact, causing damage. The Mercury had minor damage. Both Stork and Hanson reported no injuries.
Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 3:30 p.m. July 26 on US Highway 10 just east of County Road J in the town of Trimbelle. A 2013 Chevy Silverado, driven by Mark Eugene Andrle, 56, River Falls, was traveling westbound on Highway 10 when he observed a 2013 Chevy Silverado, driven by Jacob Alan Hoyer, 36, Ellsworth, heading eastbound drift into his lane and start coming right at him. Andrle started braking, but said he had nowhere to go to avoid a collision. Hoyer pulled back into his traffic lane, but Andrle struck the utility trailer Hoyer was pulling. Hoyer said he was tired and had started to fall asleep, but woke up when he was in the opposite traffic lane. After Andrle struck the trailer, Hoyer lost control and entered the south ditch, going through a field for about 75 yards. Both drivers wore seat belts and reported no injuries. Hoyer’s truck had minor damage, while Andrle’s was towed due to disabling damage. Hoyer was cited for operating left of center line.
Police responded to a one-vehicle crash at 8:03 a.m. July 27 on County Road U one-quarter mile north of 70th Street in the town of Union. A 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Christopher Lloyd Jeblonsky,
39, Plum City, was traveling north on County Road U when it crossed the center line, entered the west ditch and struck a fence. The vehicle had functional damage. Jeblonsky wore a seat belt and reported no injuries. He was cited for operating left of center line.
Officers were notified of a one-vehicle crash at 11:36 p.m. July 29 on private property on 250th Street in Spring Valley. An unknown vehicle was driving south on Overlook Road. Skid marks located in the southbound lane lead to the guardrail face, where it had been struck. The vehicle fled the scene of the crash.
Deputies were notified of a one-vehicle crash at 12:19 p.m. July 31 that had occurred at 11 p.m. July 30 on 710th Avenue just west of 643rd Street in the town of Martell. A 2007 Chevy Corvette, driven by Shane Micheal Ohland, 43, Brooklyn Park, Minn., was leaving W6441 710th Ave. He accelerated the car abruptly and started fish-tailing on the gravel road. He attempted to steer into the fish-tail, but lost control and went into the north ditch, then entered a standing cornfield. He knocked down about 11 rows of corn and stopped. He removed the vehicle the next day and drove it from the scene until the car overheated. He never contacted law enforcement. The car was towed due to disabling damage; Ohland reported no injuries. He was cited for failure of operator to notify police of accident and failure to keep vehicle under control.
Police were called to a semi crash at 11:47 a.m. Aug. 1 on Highway 128 just north of County Road B in the town of Spring Lake. A 2015 Volvo Semi, driven by Raymundo Ignacio Diaz,
71, River Falls, was heading southbound on Highway 128 north of County Road B. The semi drifted to the outside edge and caught the guardrail. The truck continued on, knocked the guardrail off and came to rest in a water run in the west ditch. The semi was towed due to disabling damage. Diaz wore a seat belt and reported no injuries.
Officers responded to a truck vs. motorcycle crash at 5:56 p.m. Aug. 3 on Highway 29 just east of Highway 35 in the town of River Falls. A 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Scott Thomas Reuter, 61, River Falls, was slowing to turn into a driveway to the left. A2007 Victory Kingpin, operated by Dylan Daniel Sonday, 18, Woodville, attempted to pass Reuter, collided with him, went off the road and struck a street sign. The truck had minor damage while the motorcycle was towed due to disabling damage. Reuter wore a seat belt and reported no injuries. Sonday, who wore no protective gear, was transported by an ambulance to River Falls Area Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Deputies were notified of a deer vs. vehicle crash at 8:55 p.m. Aug. 7. A 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Graciela Esperanza Franco,
18, Prescott, struck a deer on US Highway 10 one-third mile west of 620th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Franco, who wore a seat belt, reported no injuries.
Police responded at 8:25 a.m. Aug. 14 to a two-vehicle crash in the Grant Street parking lot in Ellsworth. A 2014 Ford F350, driven by Thomas James Benitz, 39, Maiden Rock, was backing up from a parking stall and struck a legally parked 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, owned by Aric Charles Rasmussen, Spring Valley.
Officers responded to a one-vehicle crash at 10:32 a.m. Aug. 14 on US Highway 63 just east of US Highway 10 in the town of Ellsworth. An unknown vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 10 approaching Highway 63, failed to stop at the stop sign, crossed Highway 63, entered the north ditch and drove into a corn field, where it wrecked 12 yards of corn and fled the scene. The truck had minor damage while the Grand Prix had functional damage. No injuries were reported.
