SV Cardinals run past Chetek

The Spring Valley Cardinals beat the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Bulldogs by a score of 43-17 on Friday night in Chetek.

It was like the 12 days of Christmas as the Cardinals filled out the box score with a wide variety of stats including three touchdowns, two kickoff return touchdowns, and one passing touchdown on Wyatt Goveronski’s only pass attempt of the night.

Diego Schmitt paced the backfield for both teams putting up 138 yards and a touchdown on 6 total carries breaking off for huge chunk gains including a 30-yard scamper into the endzone. To put it in perspective, Chetek’s entire receiving core had 134 yards and their entire team only put up 114 yards rushing.

Additional individual standouts included Trevor Forster who had eight total tackles and a sack on defense while rushing eight times for 48 yards and a score on offense. The Spring Valley defense as a whole did a good job keeping Chetek in check holding them to 6-12 on 3rd down and 2-4 on 4th down while also securing an interception and limiting their ground game to just over 3-yards per carry.

The Cardinals will head to Glenwood City next week to play the Hilltoppers. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Wolves route Wildcats

The Elmwood-Plum City Wolves defeated the Blair-Taylor Wildcats by a score of 50-20 on Friday night in Blair.

Big run plays were in abundance for the Wolves Friday night as they put up 373 yards rushing and four scores on the ground. Elmwood-Plum City Quarterback Aaden Birtzer only threw two passes in the game, but both were into the endzone for touchdowns.

Individual standouts include Birtzer who, in addition to his work throwing the rock, added 15 carries for 126 yards and two scores rushing to his resume. Riley Bechel caught both of Birtzer’s passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns and also chipped in four carries for 56 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Blake Allen also had a big game with seven carries for 103 yards and three successful 2-point rushing attempts while also adding three total tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown to his efforts.

The Wolves head to Clear Lake to play the Warriors on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

River Falls drubs Holmen

The River Falls Wildcats beat the Holmen Vikings 35-7 on Friday night in Holmen.

They moved to 2-0 on the season with a resounding victory as they dominated the game on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Jacob Range only had to attempt eight passes in this game as the defense and the ground game took the game script right out of his hands.

The MVP for this game is clearly Jonah Severson who put up 220 yards and four scores on 28 carries. Someone tell Derrick Henry to take a seat. The defense also did a solid job all night holding the Vikings to 4-11 on 3rd downs, 1-2 on 4th downs, forcing a turnover and only allowing a single score for the second week in a row. Overall, River Falls point differential on the season is +54 through two games.

The Wildcats will look to make it 3-0 as they travel to New Richmond to play the Tigers this Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Ellsworth defense shines as offense runs all over Waukesha

The Ellsworth Panthers took the win over the Waukesha South Blackshirts Friday night in Waukesha by a score of 46-6.

The Panthers shined on both sides of the ball on Friday as they had their way with the Blackshirts virtually all night. Waukesha got on the board early with a touchdown but failed to convert the extra point, and that was all they managed all night against the Ellsworth defense.

The Ellsworth offense had modest passing numbers completing 7-11 passes for 37-yards and a score, but they completely dominated the game with their rushing attack putting up 272 yards and four scores. The Panthers defense completely outmatched the Blackshirts offense with four interceptions, two forced fumbles and two scores. They also held Waukesha to 3-11 on 3rd downs and 1-3 on 4th downs and have now only allowed two scores through two games.

With this, Ellsworth moves to 2-0. The Panthers will play at home this Friday against the Amery Warriors. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
