A Prescott man fled the scene of a crash last week and told police he “panicked.”
Gerald Raymond Erickson, 65, was driving a 2014 Buick Verano at 8:16 p.m. April 27 eastbound on Highway 10 near 1170th Street in the town of Oak Grove when he crossed the center line, entered the ditch on the north side of the road and traveled through the ditch and a field until it struck a tree on Gregory Eaton’s property.
Erickson fled the scene on foot after the vehicle started on fire. Scanner traffic indicated passersby helped Erickson out of the vehicle before it started on fire, but then he ran away.
When police located him later, Erickson told them he believes he fell asleep and ran away from the scene because he “panicked.” He was cited for failure of operator to notify police of accident and failure to keep vehicle under control. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.
