Wisconsin is facing a significant public safety crisis. Criminals from around the world have been flooding across our borders illegally and infiltrating our communities for the past four years. To add insult to injury, Gov. Evers and some Wisconsin sheriffs put up every roadblock imaginable to stop authorities like ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) from deporting murderers, rapists, terrorists, drug dealers and human traffickers. Citizens would be shocked to know that felons who are in our state illegally are being released into our communities after being in custody.
This week, I, along with Assembly Republicans, released common-sense legislation that will require county sheriffs to notify ICE when a criminal with a felony is in their custody. Currently, there is no statutory requirement for sheriffs’ departments to inquire with ICE when an individual’s legal status cannot be verified. Our legislation partners with President Trump to make sure our local law enforcement works with federal authorities to remove illegal criminals from our communities.
Wisconsinites can’t wait any longer and need action now. I am working hard in Madison to make our communities safer. If you have any questions or comments, or would like to join my mailing list, please feel free to reach out to me at www.repkreibich.com or at Rep.Kreibich@legis.wisconsin.gov.
