RIVER FALLS The University of Wisconsin-River Falls will hold a free concert from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, featuring the Kids From Wisconsin at the Melvin Wall Amphitheatre outdoor stage on campus.
This is the first time since 2019 the Kids From Wisconsin have performed at the university because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s been so long since we’ve been able to come together and be on the hill,” said Elise Peters, events and activities coordinator for Student Involvement. “We’re excited to bring back this event again.” The Kids From Wisconsin’s Big Bang Boom Tour will highlight the eclectic fads, explosive dance crazes and bands that have burst forth onto the music scene. British invasions, Swedish bands, Motown, Swing dance and Disney are just some of the influences that have ignited today’s music genres.
The concert is a high-powered two-hour Vegas-style production featuring some of Wisconsin’s most talented singers, dancers and instrumentalists in celebrating the world’s most dynamic and impactful music styles and cultures.
Kids From Wisconsin started in 1969. This year’s cast includes trumpet player Ava Redmond of River Falls. Redmond graduated from River Falls High School and is planning to attend UW-Eau Claire this fall to major in trumpet performance and music education. She participated in wind symphony, jazz band and pit orchestra and was a soloist in the 2021 state champion marching band. Grilled food, beverages and ice cream will be available for purchase at the concert. Smoking and carry-in alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Personal picnics and beverages are allowed. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times.
In case of inclement weather, the show will be held in Hunt Arena in the Falcon Center.
